"Calling you from Federal Crime Investigation Department. This call is to inform you that there is a case file on you name as well as on your social. So give me a call back on my direct line number is 2147854568. Again it's 2147854568. Don't disregard this message. Now if you don't return the call or I don't hear from (unintelligible) either. The only thing I can do is wish you a good life (unintelligible.) God bless you and goodbye."
This is the voicemail I received from an unidentified woman with a heavy asian accent. I called the number back and some man identified himself as calling from the state attorney general's office. I asked for his name, Kevin Martin. I asked him what this matter was in regards to, and he said a payday loan. I informed him that I have never taken a payday loan out before. He cut me off and said "Ma'am you need to let me finish talking." He informed me that 'they' are suing me for $13,000 in court but if I want to settle it would be $499 that I have to pay immediately and if I don't pay it, there will be criminal charges against me. I went along with what he said and told him I had the money to pay it. He asked me if I had the money in cash or in my account. I told him cash. He proceeded to tell me that I needed to go to my nearest CVS/Ralph's (grocery store) and load the money onto a "Green Dot Card." I didn't even let him finish before I told him about the BBB and how I will be reporting them for scamming people out of their hard earned money. He hung up in my face.
