Just received this call on my cell phone, as many of you have, telling me that I am being sued by who???? (could not make out by who until I found this forum)...no other name or information was mentioned, only a call back number. So I immediately googled the number 425-409-3468.
Here I am and would like to share the TRUTH about this call....IT IS A SCAM!......and do not call back!!
I will enlighten you further as to what takes place when the IRS contacts an individual but please remember to report the call along with number so it can be documented.
First of all the IRS neither has the time or the man power to do what some may have experienced when speaking to a person from the number you are asked to call. The IRS will send an official letter with letter head, containing documented information from a specific tax year in question, case number with complete details of the information or additional documentation needed to assist them in their inquiry.
You will be requested to call and speak with an agent. All information is clearly documented in this letter with a phone number for you to call along with agents name to contact. When you call you will then be directed to the agent handling the case and confirm the letters information, have your concerns answered and possible make an appointment to bring additional documents that support the tax year in question.
So rest assured the IRS is not sloppy like the call you have received, it is all very professional and business like. The IRS letter will most likely have information regarding a specific tax year that you and only you (besides the IRS) is aware of and most of the time it is for additional information that needs to be verified or added to that tax year's filing.
