After posting truck canopy for sale on Kijiji, I received the following text message:
"Hello, pls email jerry.bru1@live.com with the final price for your Truck service cap / canopy .."
After emailing him, he wanted to arrange payment via PayPal, with anonymous courier picking up the canopy. Here's that email:
"Thanks for the swift response,I am okay with your final asking price, I would have loved to come for access and inspection personally but due to the nature of my work and location i can't because am a very busy person and work long hours everyday. The payment will be made via fastest and secure way to pay online (PayPal), As for the pick up, I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after the payment is completed,
My private courier agent will come for the pick up on my behalf, You can now send me your PayPal email so I can pay in right away. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.ca and sign up. its very easy, and also I will need more of this details as well about it ?
:Reason for Sale??
:More pictures if available..
:Home Address and Pick up location.
Kindly get back to me with all the information requested, I await your response.
Regards,"
He was extremely insistent on using PayPal, and refused any alternative payment or pickup options. In his emails, he referred to himself as "Jerry Bruckheimer" LOL!
Then I found this: http://www.theguardian.com/money/2012/jan/27/is-paypal-safe-protection
So my last email to him:
There are reasons I do not deal with PayPal. I'm very sorry, but this is a $2900 canopy, I'm sacrificing at $480.
If you are unable to show up with cash in hand, or unable to conduct email money transfer, then there's really nothing further to discuss.
Thank you for your time,
Gordon"
Funny thing - he never replied.... (cue the eerie music)
