I had the same results when I tried to find out who these criminals were. Further angering me, neither my state Attorney General's office nor the State Department of Telecommunications and Cable, could address this issue, and the F.T.C. website doesn't seem to support complaints leading to inquiries regarding the perpetrators.
I believe that just as was the case with predatory mortgage lending practices a decade ago, a lot of people are going to have to get hurt before any level of government responds.
I encourage anyone and everyone who has received calls like this to write his or her U.S. congressperson and ask for meaningful legislation to be written addressing the patent lack of consumer protection regarding scams which utilize telecommunications to perpetrate their criminal activity.
