SCAM TEXT MESSAGE ("from" 819-725-2103):
——————————————
You can now cIaim $85.47 due to an error in withdrawing in your Iast GST invoice.
CIaim here: {a masked, "bit.ly" web address}
——————————————
ANY text message or e-mail from an unknown sender that wants you to press on a masked/obfuscated web address such as "...BIT.LY/xxxxxx" is GUARANTEED to be fraudulent (no matter how potentially real or valuable it may appear to you)!
DON'T get side-tracked with "how they got your number" OR "that they're not respecting the fact that you're on the DO NOT CALL Registry."
In fact, THEY DID NOT "GET" YOUR NUMBER! Instead, they have a computer program that dials EVERY telephone number, one by one.
For example, a computer calling program could be set to start calling "123-456-0001" & just kept adding 1 & dialing again (i.e., "123-456-0002" "123-456-0003"...."123-457-0001" "123-457-0002"...).
Most likely the sender's telephone number is also FALSE (technically this is termed, "SPOOFED"), & it's probably not even "ACTIVE" (i.e., the telephone company has it available for a NEW customer).
The call or text is probably coming from some hidden, international SCAM call centre (based somewhere in India, for example).
These people are pond scum, bottom feeders who sadly prey upon the gullible & unsuspecting of this world, & they will lie & steal as much as possible IF you are stupid enough to respond or give them ANY information about yourself.
Even REPLYING to them tells them that YOUR number is working, & they can then SELL your number (& many others, unfortunately) to other scammers.
SO...DO FOUR (4) THINGS WHEN YOU GET THESE KINDS OF TEXTS:
1—> NEVER REPLY OR CLICK ON ANYTHING!!!
2—> ADD THEIR "NUMBER" TO YOUR "CALL BLOCKER."
3—> DELETE THEIR MESSAGE!!!
4—> CONGRATULATE YOURSELF FOR NOT BEING GULLIBLE OR STUPID!!!
