First, if this Collector is impersonating a law enforcement agency with properly identifying themselves, they are committing a felony. If it is cross state line, it becomes a federal felony. Addition it is illegal; for a debt collect to violate the FDCA by doing this. Please people, check your state law and if possible record the conversation and take that information to the District Attorney's Office. Please DO MAKE SURE that you can LEGALLY record the conversation on your end in the state that you live in. The reason WHY, if your state does not allow you to record that conversation without the other party permission - you personally can be held liable, both civilly and criminally.
