Definitely a scam! I've also been getting letters from various places, looking 'official' - but with all kinds of different numbers. I decided to finally call this one cause it said something about 'DMV' as well as saying my warranty is about to expire, and after being on hold there was a nice woman trying to sell a warranty on my Toyota (factory warranty expired LAST YEAR). I explained that I'm going for disability and have no money coming in. She reduced the price, but I said I still wasn't sure about being able to afford it. She said she would ask her supervisor about reducing it further..
THEN this a-hole got on the line and tried high-pressure techniques, saying that ~75% of Toyota's business is from servicing - why do you think that is?" (Yeah - right. Toyota with the highest reliability (from 1st hand experience with a previous used Toyota, no less!)
Anyway, I said I still wasn't sure and asked for their company's name - so I could research it further. Then he got incredibly rude and said "I'm not going to divulge anything further as I think you're going to use it for "malicious purposes"". (whatever the heck THAT means??).. So I just said "okay, take care then" Then he hung straight up.
Whatever, jerk! Scam for sure. (That woman seemed to be too nice to be working for scam artists, though - hope she finds a better, legitimate job.. At least SHE was sincerely nice.))
