Call from Darek Sheehan, Pioneer Credit Recovery, 26 Edwards St, Arcade, NY 14009 - call back number 877-443-9336. He called the wife's cell phone the afternoon of 5/12/2010. He said he was calling on behalf of the US Government Educational Loan department. (Said the loan had been turned over to his company for collection.) He had been arguing with the wife about collecting on a student loan he said she owed. (Note: The wife and I are retired senior citizens livng entirely on Social Security!) I finally got her to hand me the phone, whereupon I collected the above informaiton, then told him that her student loan was being paid directly, that he was to place our number on his do-no-call list and that if he or his company called again I'd turn the matter over to any one of a number of attorneys that chase debt collectors that are violating the law. He was very polite through it all and ended the call without further argument when I said "good bye". I learned how to do this by clicking on the links - that exist on websites like this one - to lawyers that sue debt collectors - then reading all the free help and advice they offer. Nice thing is, the new debt collection practices law allows them to sue on behalf of a consumer without any cost of obligation on the part of the "victim" of these vultures. That is, the consumer doesn't pay the lawyer anything. The lawyer gets paid when he collects a judgement against the debt collector. Sometimes, the law DOES protect the little guy. (Yeah, there ARE some real deadbeats out there, but deadbeats have rights TOO!) IMHO, MOST folks would LIKE to pay their debts, but sometimes circumstances beyond their control make it difficult to impossible to do so. Take sutdent loans, for example - the loans were supposed to help the student get an education and qualify for a "good job". But there are no provisions in this socalistic government to forgive the loans when things just don't work out that way. Even students that make good grades often can't find "a good job" in the field of their study - or in an OTHER field, for that matter. Then they can't pay, no matter WHAT.
