RE - 08-08-2012

Got a call last night. They tried to run a full fledged scam on me, saying I owed a debt for a check cashing loan I never received--
First I received a call from this number 352-269-0041. The guy on the other end wanted to verify my address so he could serve me with legal papers. When I asked what it was about, he gave me this # 877-637-2057 with claim #172341. The guy who answered my call identified himself as Quincy Wright. The company name sounded like gibberish, so I asked him to repeat it- he did, yet it was still unclear and then he proceeded to ask if I had been served legal documents.
I knowing it was a scam, I choose to play along, so I said no- he wanted to verify all of my personal information. I refused and told him to tell me what HE knew. He gave me info that can be found on-line. When I asked for details, he couldn't give them to me, not because he "legally couldn't", but because he didn't have it. The information they had was 3 different tidbits, from 3 different counties, spanning a range of 5 years. They were trying to say that I took out a cash advance in Jan 2009 and that when the "check cashing place" (I'm not making this up) tried to recoup it's money, my checking account with The First Union Bank of Florida (Jacksonville, FL) account # ending in 0054 was closed.
Though I have lived in Jax, I have never banked with that bank. Yeah go figure. The guy insisted that I needed to make restitution in the amount of $396.00, or I would be served and then there would nothing he could do to "help" me. I told him I wasn't making restitution on a loan I never took out, and he got pissy and shouted "Well good luck to you, then!"
