08/11/2011 09:05am and 12:25pm Call from 904-418-6037 - caller ID = STARNET PAETE
Following my official business greeting, the first call was dead air. When a second call rang in, I recognized the number and simply said, “Hello”. A telemarketer came onto the line and announced that she was calling from Nationwide Diabetic (found online as http://nationwidediabetic.com/). She asked for an employee, who has not been employed here in over 2 years. She then launched into a long solicitation. She was offering a free talking glucose meter. I interrupted her and asked if her company had a website. She told me her company’s website was solometers.com (found as http://solometers.com/) I then asked if she had a phone number where I could return her call and she provided 800-693-7573 as listed online at http://nationwidediabetic.com/.
I then informed her that I had received a call from the same number earlier in which no one came onto the line. She apologized. I then asked her to remove my phone number and name from their database and place us on DO NOT CALL. She promised to comply with the request.
I suspect this website[http://nationwidediabetic.com/] is just a front. All links are inactive and if you search the originating telephone number, 904-418-6037, there are many, many complaints across numerous websites that track phone solicitation complaints.
I reported the suspicious website and telemarketing activity to both the American Diabetic Association and the Better Business Bureau because their logos are displayed on the website.
