I live in Ashland, Wisconsin (Representative Sean Duffy's district). February 28th, 2014, at 4:12 p.m., I received a call from 202-760-4537. The caller said he was conducting research and wanted to ask me a few questions. I asked him who he was working for and he evaded my questions. I asked repeatedly and he finally said he was working for "Indie Surveys," which he described as a "national research firm." I asked who had hired them to conduct this research and he said that he did not know. I told him I would answer his questions, but that after I answered his questions, I would like more information about who was funding the research. The research questions were very Push-Poll like and seemed to be pro Sean Duffy. Once the survey ended, I asked again for more information about Indie Surveys. They put me on hold for a long time and finally a "manager" named "Christina" got on the line. I asked her where Indie Surveys was located and let her know that I did not find any presence for the company on an Internet Search. She said they were located "somewhere outside of Chicago," but would not give me a specific town. She refused to give me a phone number or a mailing address. When pushed, she put me back on hold. After several minutes, she got back on the phone and gave me a phone number she said was "customer service for Indie Surveys." I hung up and tried calling the number, which was actually the same number that showed up on my phone when they called me for the poll, but got only a computerized answering service that identified itself as "campaign headquarters" (but did not say for which campaign) and asked me to push a key if I would like to be added to the mailing list. This is in violation of Wisconsin GAB 1.655(2)(b)
