Shortly after applying for an online emergency loan, which I never took, I started receiving repeated calls from a number that showed in my cell with different IDs, but most consistently as 786-786, as if coming from abroad. I never answered but kept the voice messages. It was always a man with a heavy Indian accent addressing me by name and threatening legal action against my SS# (he had the correct last 4 digits). At different times he told me to call back either 626-606-0017 or 786-728-8082, and identified himself as either Don/Ron/Ryan Black (hard to understand) or Officer Kevin Thomas. It sounded like the same man to me but it might actually be two separate scams. He said to be calling from either Anderson Law Firm or American Law Division.

It was suspicious from the start so instead of calling back I went online and found several complaints of fraudulent calls involving the same numbers and a heavily accented man. I also found complaints about the same scam in www.800notes.com

I've gone ahead and have filed a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center (www.IC3.gov). I don't think the local police can do much about this, but having a report on file with IC3 will be a first step at defending myself against any potential identity theft or bogus charges. I hope someone is following up on this specific scam. These people are giving a bad name to a whole people, how sad and unfair. If you happen to be Indian and read this, don't let your country be seen as the next Nigeria, if you know what I mean... get together and help fight these scumbags!
