Have received numerous and repeated calls from 786-646-0077 on my Caller ID, but for the first time on April 8th, in the evening, I actually answered the phone (not knowing who was behind that number).
The female caller asked for me by first name, and when I asked who was calling, she said some sort of organization that is collecting money for "ladies fighting breast cancer." She asked me if I would like to "help the ladies" with a donation [whoever "the ladies" are and if they even exist]. I said no, because this might very well be a scam, and I also receive TONS of solicitations in the mail and half of them are probably scams - and the only charity I trust is the Salvation Army.
The caller quickly said she understood and appeared to immediately try to get off the phone. I said I support the cause (fighting/curing breast cancer) in sentiment, but that this is probably a scam. I said, "If it is a scam, then shame on you, because I don't know."
...And I hung up the phone.
NOTE: I tried calling that same number today and all it is, is a recording saying exactly the following:
"Thank you for calling the fundraising center. We are unable to take your call at this time."
The fundraising center??? If they were a legitimate charity, they would probably have a live person answering the phone, and at the very least - if only a recording - then there'd be an *organization name* identifying them, not just a "fundraising center," as they so generically called themselves. I suspect they telephone countless people and make up whatever fake charity suits them in order to solicit funds from unsuspecting people. I'm going to report them to the proper authorities for possible fraud.
