Called saying I owe $3,200 and if I don't pay it will become $10,000 or more. Something about how sheriffs will be at my door to subpoena me for a lawsuit, but was using some completely random and wrong name (calling me someone else's name). I did not correct him or say my name, and hung up in the middle of his scam sounding diatribe. Now he has left two a phone message. I called back and left a message that there is no-one at this address by that name, but today another phone message.
Sounds like some sort of lawyer scam to try and get people to straight away send cash?
Sure seems like random phone-call extortion.
For the other people writing messages here... did he ask you your name first before saying who he is calling for? I did not say my name.
Oh and did he answer my question of... "What company are you affiliated with?"... Nope, he just bullied into his next demand.
Scam scam scam, but he does sound like a legitimate lawyer type and not unintelligent, so I would guess there is some new precedent that allows people to randomly solicit for cash with the threat of a lawsuit.
