This phone number called asking for me by name. When I verified my name the male scammer on the other end informed me I have $12,000 that I owe to the IRS. Surprised by this news because I have always qualified for a refund- I attempted to plug him for information. He provided no business name, but explained that his company works with the IRS so "You don't have to". When I told the scammer that it was interesting that I owe $12k because I've always qualified for a refund", the called told me that "This must not be you then" and hung up.
I have a unique name- there is no one else on the face of the planet with my name. Nice try scammer.
I called the IRS to report the phone call so that they were aware of the potential fraud this individual or individuals was causing.

THE IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU OR EMAIL YOU DIRECTLY. THEY ALWAYS INITIATE VIA UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE.
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE IRS-YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW ABOUT IT AND WON'T TALK TO A 3RD PARTY COMPANY. IF A 3RD PARTY COMPANY CALLS YOU SAYING YOU OWE THE irs MONEY- plug THEM for information and THEN call the IRS to verify.
