I received a message on my answering machine that the IRS was trying to file a lawsuit against me and I needed to call 202-697-9012 as this was my final notice. I dialed the number and a man answered the phone. He asked for my phone number to look up the account information. I provided my home phone number and he proceeded to tell me that I owed over $2,900 in back taxes from 2008 through 2013. This guy even provided a badge ID number of KL2971 and said he was an officer of the IRS. He told me that the IRS has been sending me letters stating that I owe money. I told him that I have never received any letters from the IRS. I told him that I use Turbo Tax and that I when I owe, I've mailed my check to the IRS and when I've gotten a refund, the refund has been deposited in my account. He told me I was being defiant of the IRS and that if I wasn't willing to resolve this he would send an officer over to my home in 45 minutes to make an arrest. I kept asking who he worked with and was he really with the IRS. He just kept telling me that I was being defiant to the IRS and if I hung up the phone, it was an indication of my direct defiance. I told him I would not hang up the phone because I don't want to appear defiant. Additionally I told him I hope the call is recorded because throughout the call I kept saying "This is false information. I do not owe the IRS anything." He said he was going to count to three and hang up and I could settle over the phone or I could settle in court.

I just got the same call and figured it must be a scam. Never got any previous "notices" about any IRS lawsuit against me, which you would think I'd remember receiving. Didn't try calling number back and don't intend to.
