I'm going to investigate further/double check, but am pretty sure this is a slightly more sophisticated version of a scam call that has been going around for ay least 5 years. The reason that I want to investigate this further is that the wording of the voice message that the caller left when I didn't pick up was a bit more sophisticates than the previous scams-- there is only one grammar mistake, and the message is spoken by a smooth lady-voiced robot. This was the text of the call:
"The purpose of this call is regarding an enforcement action which has been executed by the U.S. Treasury against your social security number. Ignoring this would be an intentional attempt to avoid appearance before the magistrate judge or exempt jury for a federal criminal offense. If you wish to speak to social security officer right now, please press 1. Thank you." (the one grammar mistake I found was "speak to social security officer" -- it should be "speak to *a* social security officer.") Again, I am pretty sure this is a scam, but I will try to update this comment later with confirmation of that fact.
