Got a call from a person who said they were from Windows customer support and had detected a virus on my computer which my virus software did not detect so called to help remove it. I asked again what company they were from and they said "Windows", which is suspicious since Windows is from Microsoft. I said I can't go further without verifying they are legitimate and got their phone number. I checked number on Internet and saw a website listed on Google results (windows-tech-support.com), but know websites that have several dashes in their name are many times "fake" but have a website to look legitimate. I went to the official Microsoft website (microsoft.com) and called their customer service. I spoke with a Microsoft customer service representative who told me that Microsoft does not use "310" numbers and they don’t call people to tell them that they have a virus or any other type of issue unless you first called them with a complaint that gets a case number.
