Chicago caller ID. Asked me to wait 30 sec for a rep. No other message, and no rep, either.
The national Do Not Call registry is a total waste of time. So toothless it is ineffective. These robo-dialing telemarketers simply do not care and do not comply.
Some phone companies do provide a way to block specific numbers, and some telephones also have that feature. That works, until their limited memory overflows (telemarketers can & do use more numbers than most phones can block).
My phone has been mostly quiet since I installed a Digitone Call Blocker, which has loads of memory for offending phone numbers. The first call I get from a new telemarketing number, it only takes two clicks of a button to block it forever. Even better, the Call Blocker also lets me block entire area codes that the bad boys might favor, which is great because I don't know anyone in most area codes. If I happen to know some folks in a blocked area code, the Call Blocker lets me "allow" those specific phone numbers.
Now here may be the best news: the Call Blocker just as easily squelches those pesky political, fund-raising, or survey callers that are legal exceptions to the Do Not Call regulation.
It has been blessedly quiet around here, as I said, because my phone doesn't ring at all when called by a blocked number (or area code). By the way, I don't work for Digitone . . . instead, Digitone works for me. :)
