I received a call from an 'agent' John Gilbride from DEA Boston that said a warrant was issued for my arrest in the Dominican Republic and that unless I immediately went to a Western Union and wired $4,000 to Dick William, Supreme Court 203 in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic, agents would be sent to arrest me.
I reported this to the DEA hotline. Unfortunately, the Hotline mailbox is full, so I called my local ( Chicago ) and Boston DEA offices and asked for the Agent on Duty. The agent in Chicago tried called this guy, then caled me back to tell me that if I wanted to pursue this, that I should call the FBI, as they are responsible for investigating anyone posing as Federal agents ( regardless of which agency ).
I also did a couple of quick internet searches ( try www.numberinvestigator.com ) and found that the exchange was serviced by Comcast Phone of Massachusetts ( whom I called ), that the ACTUAL phone company was YMAX Comms. Corp. MA, and used switch NDHMMAEFDS0 ( see www.telcodata.us ).
All of this means that the scammer is probably outside the country and using a digital phone service along with some type of routing software or hardware to reroute the call. Hopefully the FBI is monitoring all of the numbers associated with this scam.
DO NOT under any circumstances send any money. The DEA, FDA, etc do not operate this way. And if they were coming to arrest you, they wouldn't be calling ahead !
