I received a call from Officer Cruz (badge 14) from the department of fraud investigation for the state (interestingly enough, the call originates in Austin, TX and I live in Arizona so first red flag for me) and she claims that she is trying to set up a service to process (turning myself in) with the county (please note that they DO NOT warn you that they have a warrant for you, they just serve it without notice, otherwise people would run). She goes on to say that failure to return her call within 24 hours will mean that I waive my right to council (failure to call someone DOES NOT allow them to claim you have no right to defend yourself with or without council, that would violate your rights) and it'll be processed in a district court for immediate legal action against me.
Nothing about this call seemed legitimate so I looked up the real phone number for the department of fraud investigation for the state of Texas and called them. I was told that it is a scam and other people have reported the same type of call. The woman in the real department of fraud investigation laughed when I told her which department Officer Cruz claimed to be from and now there is a fraud investigation for this woman and the phone number she is using.
Please, BEWARE OF THESE PEOPLE! THEY ARE TRYING TO SCAM YOU! Call this number to report these people 512-424-2000 and get them shut down!!
