I received a phone call from this number. A woman by the name Jamie Lawrence said that my neighbors wife was in jail. She had been in an accident near Niagera Falls and arrested for DUI. They told him not to mention this to my neighbor as it might upset him. I was asked to mail $500.oo because a Judge Michael Crystal in Ontario said it was needed to release the arrested party. I mailed the money without knowing about this scam. I phoned the number back to see if they got the money and was told that they found out an additional $2500.00 was needed because a telephone pole had been damaged in the accident and that the money had to be paid before the arrested party would be let out of jail. I informed them that I didn't have any more money and hung-up.
Western Union was notified but they are playing "dumb" in claiming they know nothing about such a scam. We in Indiana feel that Western Union is as much the blame as the scam artists as they have no disclaimer on their paperwork. They are named by the scammers thus they should be charged for not trying to block this through their electronic program in sending payments.
