They stated that I needed to call them with a reference number that they provided and said that it pertained to a person that I have no affiliation with, and if I didn't call them back, legal action would be taken and some paperwork would be sent to my home.

Same as above. Call 2 or 3 times a day! I've saved the messages, and I am going to go to my local police dept. and play the messages for them; see if they can call them. Don't know if it will help, but it will put the scammers on alert.
