If they contacted your brother and you have proof of it; if it's true that the debt has passed the statute of limitations (depends on your State so you'll need to double check - CA is 4 years from the last payment made) then you can actually sue them and get $1,000 +.
In California, you can get $2,000 dollars (for violation of the Federal FDCPA and the State's Rosenthal FDCPA. Any attorney will take your case on a contingency basis (no cost to you).

"Samantha Cole" (most likely NOT her real name) called me today (02/11/2016) via an UNKNOWN number (to disguise herself) and left a message to tell me to be home tomorrow between the hours of 12-4 with a valid ID and sign for documents.
If I'm not home I'll "be marked as non-comply". I believe this "Samantha Cole" is just a telemarketer for a junk debt buyer. She sounded as if she were reading off a cue-card. Uh, no. They get NO signature from me so mark all they want!
Now I read here that people have called the number that takes them to the junk debt buyer offering a "deal" to pay off a debt they bought for literally pennies on the dollar! NO WAY.

I got a call telling me that a courier is coming to my house with court papers. I called the number that was left, and found out it was a collection agency that wanted to give me a "deal" to pay the balance. I hung up. They also called my younger brother, who is not listed anywhere as a contact on any financial or legal document. They must have spammed his number. The person at the collections company told me that I was being sued for $1,300.00 and that I would have my wages garnished. I checked the statute of limitations for California and they can't really sue me, and if they do, I can let the court know that the statute of limitations is up, and I do not appreciate the agency using scare tactics to get their money. Besides, is $1,300.00 really worth sending to a small claims court? Sorry, didn't work.

To Annoyed:
No. They never showed up. It's just another slimy trick by a collection agency to call the number they left on your voicemail and to get you to call them.
