This number is a scammer claiming they are from Microsoft Corportation and are trying to help you with viruses that are on your computer. They will give you believable information and even claim they can show you a "code" that is unique to your computer, the code is; "888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062". This code is not unique it has something to do with Microsofts compressed folder Send To function but they will try to convince you that the first part is a unique code keyed to your motherboard and the second part is a unique number to you hard drive (this number is the same on everyone's computer, at least it was on all of my W7 systems).

They will claim to be from Microsoft Corporate headquarters in Sydney Australia then from Redmond Washington, this number they claimed was their call back number to Redmond Washington.

They will initially scare you by saying that your computer has been sending them messages saying that your computer has been compromised. They will scare you into thinking you have a problem with your system when they have you run the eventvwr command and look at all the "errors" listed claiming that hackers have taken control of your computer. They will further validate this claim buy having you look at your system configuration Services and note that many of the Microsoft Corporation ones have the status "stopped". They will further scare you by asking you to connect to their "secure server" to diagnose, if you refuse they will have you enter a prefetch command that will open up a folder in windows, they will point to the long list of files and claim that they are from hackers controlling your system.

The good part comes when they claim your W7 service pack has expired since it has been more than 3 years since it was installed on your computer and like car warranties your software will expire. They then ask that for $249 they will provide unlimited renewal to your SP1 with toll free technical support number and an email with all the information you need for continued support claiming this makes it legitimate and that the justification is that there will be no further need for the third party anti-virus software you run on your system (ie McCafee, Norton, etc...). The next level is all of the above but for SP2 at $299 and finally the ultimate at SP5 for $399!
