She contacted us this evening (6 PMish), claiming to be 'Tiffany' (ID #6600) from Disney sweepstakes. A very bubbly, 'North-American' accented woman, she informed me I had won a contest from Disney's annual offerings for a FREE all-inclusive, 5 day-4 night trip to Florida with rental car. PLUS an additional 5 days in Bahamas for a Disney Cruise. I would have up to 12 months to redeem my trip (which could be extended if I asked), but would have to supply a 60 day notice for the selected date. Now, I HAVE entered contests with Disney, but I don't believe they ask for what I'm about to continue with:
This 4-person trip would only cost me the travel to and from Orlando, $297 per Adult in the party (the 3rd and 4th being free, however) and of course to take a tour during the trip (at my leisure) with a Disney Representative, so I may voice how great Disney is to everyone around!
Too good to be true! And I commented as such, calling her out on how fake this sounds. She said I had entered this opportunity within the last 12 months, and then continued to provide an e-mail address I haven't used in 6 years, my previous mailing address, my birthday and continuously repeated my first name. Then asked for me to VERIFY my VISA card number to create my confirmation number and secure my place in this contest. If I didn't, I would be disqualified from this opportunity.
Since I do not have a VISA, I stated it didn't make sense for me to 'verify' a number they supposedly had. Then she proceeded to say it could be any Major Credit Card, but it had to be secured today. She refused to provide a call back number and just continued to repeat the benefits of this 'contest' and that more information would become available I as soon as we provided the card number. When we explained again we'd like to call back after confirming this wasn't a scam, she became like a robot reading a script and then hung up on us when we stated this obviously was a scam and were reporting them to the police.
