I received a phone call from (214) 257-4038 at 10:02 am Monday, April 25, 2016. I did not recognize the phone number on the caller ID, but answered it anyway. I got a man on the phone asking for me, using my full first name (I know it is not someone I know if the person calls me by my full first name; i.e., "William" as oppose to "Bill") and asking if I was home. I asked what the caller wanted. The man said something to imply he was selling something (maybe a telemarketer). I asked how did he get the phone number (as it is unlisted, and I rarely give out my phone number to anyone, even online). He said I may have signed up on the internet for a program, etc. It bothered me that he somehow got my unlisted phone number. Maybe my cable company (Time Warner Cable) gave it to his company in order to get business? I have heard that Comcast had done that with their customers by passing on their unlisted phone number to other companies, even bill collectors. I think Comcast is in the process of being sued. I told the guy I was not interested and hung up. Hopefully, I won't be hearing from that phone number again. I ran a check on this phone number afterward and learned it is a Dallas, Texas phone number. Neither me or anyone in my family know anyone in Texas, as I live in California. So, the phone call must have been a scam. Also, just a tip in case you receive a recording upon picking up the phone and not a live person. When you know it is a recording on the other end of the phone and not a live person, immediately hit the pound sign (#) several times. It is under the number 9 on your phone. Hit the # sign several times ###### as much as you want, then hang up. What this does is takes your phone number out of their computerized phone system, as the computer does not recognize the # sign and immediately kicks your phone number out of their system. Too bad, you won't be hearing from them any more.
