She tried to get me to apply for a Credit Card over the phone said she was from M&T Bank. SCAM? i thought it was illegal to do credit applications over the phone due to security reasons.

She knew I had a bank checking account with MT and wanted to know if I would like a free savings account over the phone. Told her I wasn't interested. Later checked the phone number on the web and saw they were calling from central USA. MT Bank only has places in North-East. Called MT Bank and they confirmed there is no record of the call listed.
