They called threatening my mother, Caller ID said "Texas" (We live in CA) - They called her cell phone yesterday, she didn't answer, they called her work today telling the receptionist he was from the State of California (LIE) and it was an emergency - said she had pay day loans from 2010 and had closed her account so they couldn't take the money out, and now the police were going to come and arrest her at 4pm because there is a felony warrant out.
.... my mom has absolutely no record, and while she HAD done a couple small loans in 2010, they had taken the money out immediately when she got paid, nothing overdue, easy transaction, no issues.
This guy knew her name, birth date, email, asked for her social, AND he KNEW that she had no record, said he was just "trying to help her out" since the police were going to arrest her.
He called my phone number today. He called my mom's sister (my aunt) and left a voicemail, freaking her out - and my mom has never put my aunts phone number on anything or as any kind of reference ever, no idea how he got her number.
He knew info about her that he shouldn't have known - these a***oles do their research.
HE KNEW she had no record and all that stuff, really researched before trying to scam, harass, and threaten us.
I'm worried they are going to call my Grandma next because her number is affiliated with my mother, and my Grandma might not as easily understand this is a scam and will get distressed, which she doesn't need at her age.
