I received a phone call on 7/20/2013 from someone saying my PC was "sending error messages that showed it had bad virus causing damage" that they needed to remove. My caller ID showed his phone number as "asterisk", so I knew it was a scam. Acting like I believed him, I let him lead me through steps that would give him control of my PC, pressing him for info and got from his fake name David Ellis (heavy Asian accent), company name 99EastTech(something or other) in Florida. Static made us hang up (my ploy to see how far I could get him). He called back! He gave a phone number of 918-615-4972 which traces to Broken Arrow, OK and a company (LEVEL 3 COMMUNICATIONS LLC - OK). At a point where next step would give him control, I got his address as 4140 Jason Rd, Springhill, FL. I stopped and hung up. Using Whitepages (dot) com I tracked the address to 5 names: Eric Smith, Diane J Smith, Allison A Smith, Jason A Smith, and "online pc care help", which returns phone number 818-827-1313 which traces to North Hollywood, CA and the company PAETEC COMMUNICATIONS INC - CA in Sun Valley. Maybe a cell phone number and they could really be in Florida trying to pull this scam to get into peoples PCs to do damage, steal private info, set them up to robotically invade other PCs? You can report this info at www.IC3.gov (Internet Crimes Unit) or USA.gov for investigation. I haven't the energy to pursue it.
